We love to support local farmer to be able to offer you authentic alpine delights.

Every speciality has an origin

 

Montafoner Sura Kees im Hotel Zimba

Sura Kees from the Ganahl family

Sura Kees is the best known speciality from the Montafon. The origin goes back to the 12th century. The Ganahl Family from the mountain farm Ganahl at Barthölomäberg is producing this special product only from milk from their own only hay-fed cows.

Bacon from the Schrottenbaum family

Our first-class bacon and ham comes from the Schrottenbbaum family in Schruns. Their farm, Gauensteiner Hofspezialitäten, is located under the monastery Gauenstein on 640m sea level. The animals are raised with plenty of space and are butchered directly in the Montafon.

Schnaps from the Battlogg family

The Battlogg family is running their organic farm, Gavadura, since over 100 years in St.Anton in the Montafon. They are always developing their farm and make the finest Schnaps from local berries, roots and fruits. Truly high quality that you can taste.  We offer a great selection of their Schnaps in our hotel.

Meat from the Salzgeber family

Our veal and beef is provided by the family-run butchery, Salzgeber, in Schruns-Tschagguns. Most of their products are local, but some specialities come from farmers in upper Austria. We have the same values as the Salzgeber family regarding fresh products and great quality.

Montafoner Honig im Hotel Zimba

Honey from Andreas Vogt

Even as a Kindergarten student, Andreas wanted to be a beekeeper. Now, he is the proud owner of 45 bee hives and produces the finest honey in the valley; in 2017, he was awarded ‘Beekeeper of the Year’ in Austria. A slice of bread with Andrea’s honey is part of the culinary must-haves with us.

Just like our regional partners we are part of the bewusstmontafon initiative. Making sure that supply and demand are balanced we help to keep local business alive. Products that say bewusstmontafon include the best local ingredients. Most of the products are even prduced in the region.

Personal Recommendations

The Montafon and all of Vorarlberg are full of regional specialities. Many of my home regions culinary specialities make a perfect match with products from the Montafon. This is how I create wonderful alpine delights. I’m looking forward for you to enjoy them.
