SPRING TRADITIONS IN FEBRUARY

Funken fires and torch swinging

The Funken fires take place on the first Sunday after the carnival. It is one of the oldest and most cherished traditions of the Montafon. It goes back to a time before Christ and stands for the expels of winter demons. 

Nowadays, a 30-meter high wooden tower, with a with on top of it, is burned down every year. The fire is accompanied by torch swinging. Our son Christian is explaining in this video more about the tradition.
